She and her partner, Colin, divide their time between Canada and Australia, evidence of which can be found in her books. She is the acclaimed Australian writer of Feeling Sorry for Celia. Best friends Lydia, Emily, and Cassie attend Ashbury High School in Australia. Their kooky English teacher schemes up a penpal program between their school and the neighbouring Brookfield High. The girls are aghast, Ashbury and Brookfield have been engaged in rivalries for years, and Brookfield students are rumoured to be drug dealers, thieves, and thugs.
