Tess (Annick Press, 1995)

Tess is the story of a young girl growing up on the prairies. Her family, new to the country, did not have a lot of money. To save money during the summer months, Tess and her brother Charlie had to gather molongo, or cow manure, to burn in the house’s stove. One day a neighbour, Mr. Wright, caught the two children, filing them with deep shame. Months later, a brave Tess will do something that will change their relationship with Mr. Wright completely.
