The One and Only
Zoë Lama
(Dutton Children, 2008)
Seventh grader Zoë is one of the most popular girls
in school due to the unorthodox yet no nonsense advice
she offers to her schoolmate “clients.” One day, her teacher
announces that they will be blending another class into
theirs, creating a new 6/7 class. Zoë gets sick and
during her week long absence, sixth grader Devon Sweeney
“stepped up… and kind of took over.” Her long time clients
are now turning to Devon for advice. To make matters worse,
the apartment in which Zoë and her mother live is
becoming more dangerous by the minute, her boyfriend Riley
is spending time with Devon, and Zoë has lost the
class pet! She might need a little more than her own advice
to get her through…
