What
is there at WordFest for kids and teens?
Throughout the year and culminating with each Festival,
WordFest presents
an educational programme called First Calgary
Savings Book Rapport. Events are held in at
the Vertigo Mystery Playhouse and Studio, Glenbow Museum,
and other Calgary and Area venues. WordFest
also stages In-School events.
What
happens at a Book Rapport event?
Children’s, and young adult authors do a variety of
readings and fun performances appropriate to different
age groups. Each event includes a question and answer
session and book signing.
Who
can attend Book Rapport events?
If you would like more information, or would like to
make a booking, call the Book Rapport office at 645-4097
or email us at bookrapport@wordfest.com.
Anyone can attend a Book Rapport event. We offer tickets
for groups, families and individuals.
What
if we can’t attend the Festival?
We realized that not everyone could attend First
Calgary Savings Book Rapport, so here we are
with our own interactive educational website, bringing
the events authors and so much more to you at home.
Who
is this website made for?
We have built this site directed at young readers to
learn more about Canadian and world literature specifically
created for them. The annual WordFest:
Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival
has always been committed to bringing literature alive
for students and our ever-popular First Calgary
Savings Book Rapport is the result. Every year,
thousands of students from across Calgary and outlying
communities attend this event. If the thank you letters
and gratitude of the teachers is any modest method to
judge by, we are happy to continue this valuable program.
What
will young readers find on this site?
On this site, you and your kids will be able to explore
any number of fascinating and creative ways to learn
more about your favorite authors for young readers.
Included here are authors biographies, publications
lists, a Bulletin Board Service to post ideas and comments
and many other surprises and new stuff on the way. We
hope you enjoy your visit and feel free to email
us your questions, comments, or suggestions.
Does
Book Rapport offer support materials?
Each year, WordFest
develops a comprehensive Teachers’ Resource Guide (TRG)
to accompany the Festival’s author line-up. The TRG
contains detailed biographical and bibliographic information
on each Book Rapport author. It also presents book synopses,
activity and curriculum tie-in suggestions, and an extensive
book, audio and video, and Internet resource list. The
TRG's on-line companion available on this site contains
everything from the current TRG volume, plus an extensive
archive of past resources.
What
security does this site provide for young readers?
We are very aware of the concerns parents have with
issues of security and privacy with regards to their
children and the Internet. Our production team is well
versed in every aspect of designing a safe and above
all, fun space for your children to learn while accessing
our site. For more specific information about our security
and privacy protocols on this site please feel free
to check out our privacy and copyright regulations located
on the bottom navigation bar.
