Margaret Pokiak-Fenton

Biography

Margaret Pokiak-Fenton (CAN) was born on Holman Island in the Arctic Ocean while her nomadic family was en route to their winter hunting grounds on Banks Island. Being Inuvialuit, her childhood was filled with hunting trips by dogsled and dangerous treks across the Arctic Ocean for supplies. At the age of eight, she left home to attend a residential school in Aklavik. Her adventurous spirit and incredible life serve as the basis for Fatty Legs and its sequel A Stranger At Home, a children’s’ book co-written with her daughter-in-law Christy Jordan-Fenton.
